West Chester OKs new hotel, UDF

UPDATE @ 5:30 a.m. Feb. 15:

Trustee President Mark Welch and Trustee Vice President George Lang voted Tuesday to approve zoning for both a new Hampton by Hilton just south of Liberty Center and Cabela’s and a new United Dairy Farmers gas station on the northeast corner of U.S. 42 and Fields Ertel Road.

Trustee Lee Wong was not present.

Resident comments were permitted at a public hearing in January, but not at Tuesday’s meeting.

INITIAL REPORT (Feb. 14):

West Chester Twp. trustees will meet tonight and likely approve changes that will clear the way for a new Hampton by Hilton and United Dairy Farmers gas station.

The trustees held public hearings on the two projects at their meeting two weeks ago and several residents spoke out about traffic concerns about the UDF store that is planned for the northeast corner of U.S. 42 and Fields Ertel Road.

Trustees assured the residents a traffic study will be done before the project comes to life.

Willie McKinney, who said he is president of a nearby homeowner association, is concerned that 106 parking spaces for the proposed Hampton by Hilton might be insufficient for 101 rooms.

“That leaves no room, if it’s a full hotel, for people who work there and/or visitors that come to the hotel,” said McKinney, who noted that previous overflow parking from the former Wingate by Wynham — now known as Four Points by Sheraton — and Cabela’s clogged local streets had rankled area residents.

The proposed 58,000-square-foot Hampton by Hilton hotel would sit on a 3.9-acre site just south of Liberty Center and Cabela’s.

The trustees are expected to approve the preliminary plans for the projects and no further comments will be accepted.
