Clayton Shelburne started knitting blankets to give away to those in need with his wife’s camping club more than a decade ago.

After Shelburne’s wife Delores died in 2015, he kept making them.

"My time is nothing," Shelburne told WXIN. "I'm 88 years old, I can do this when it's raining outside and I enjoy doing it. I'm sure if my wife was here she would be happy I'm doing this too."

Now he has made enough for each patrol car at the Zionsville Police Department and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

"We could show up to a crash and the weather could be like it is now where it's nice and cold and that blanket will come in real handy when you wrap it around somebody in need," Zionsville police Sgt. Adrian Martin told WXIN.

Shelburne’s friends and family donate the material so he can make the blankets.

Shelburne plans to make more blankets when police run out of them. He would also like to donate some to the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital.

“I may have bitten off more than I can chew," Shelburne said. "I’m going to keep doing it as long as I got some money to make blankets and I’m sure there’s a need for it over there.”
