Major crane collapse in New York City; 1 confirmed dead


A large crane collapsed in New York City on Friday morning, leading to one fatality.

The crane came down on Worth Street near Broad and Wall Street in lower Manhattan, WCBS reported.

It happened about 8:25 a.m., fire officials told WNBC.

High winds are being blamed for the accident.

The FDNY confirmed that there was one fatality and three injuries. According to the NYPD, a pedestrian was killed, and three others were injured.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said it will take days to complete the investigation and repair the damage in the area.

The crane was being secured due to the wind gusts when it collapsed.
