HARTFORD, Conn. — Secretary of the State Denise Merrill and state Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola will be announcing which Republican candidates can participate in Connecticut's presidential primary.

According to state law, a candidate's name can be placed on the April 24 ballot if the secretary of the state believes the person is "generally and seriously advocated or recognized" according to media reports, national or state. Also, candidates can petition their way onto the ballot if they've collected the signatures of at least one percent of the enrolled members of the GOP.

In Connecticut, that would mean someone must collect approximately 4,100 signatures.

Merrill and Labriola plan to announced the names of the eligible presidential candidates during a news conference at Merrill's state Capitol office on Friday.
