It’s all in the family at one Hamilton medical practice.

Dr. Chetna Mital, an internal medicine physician, has operated her medical practice in Hamilton since 1990. She was joined two years ago by son Dr. Anubhav Mital, also in internal medicine.

“We work together well,” Chetna Mital said. “Me bringing in my years of experience and him coming in with a fresh set of eyes.”

The two doctors, as well as two part-time nurse practitioners, operate five days a week out of the Fort Hamilton Hospital campus at 1010 Cereal Avenue, Suite 307, and the Bethesda Butler Hospital campus at 3035 Hamilton-Mason Road, Suite 202.

Anubhav Mital said he came to Hamilton from Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

“It was a great academic center but I just really like home,” Anubhav Mital said, who attended medical school and residency at University of Cincinnati. “I liked the idea of working for myself as an independent practice and I saw this area needed doctors.”

Anubhav Mital, who lives in Liberty Twp., said also joining his mother’s existing medical practice eliminates “many hurdles” faced by independent physicians just starting out.

He was attracted to internal medicine because it requires him to know “a little bit about everything.”

“You’re treating the person as a whole rather than one part,” Chetna Mital added.

Chetna Mital, who lives in West Chester Twp., said her second office was previously in West Chester but she relocated in May of this year to a space on TriHealth’s Bethesda Butler campus in Hamilton.

“I’m impressed with the facility and access to consultants,” Chetna Mital said. “Everything is in one campus.”

Anubhav Mital added: “Patients really like the proximity of the campus to home and the highway.”

Chetna Mital said as internal medicine physicians they provide primary care to the community — anyone 18 and older. The offices are still accepting new patients.

The physicians have privileges at both Fort Hamilton and Bethesda Butler hospitals and can admit and follow patients at the hospitals.

Anubhav Mital said he has a keen interest in helping the community with its growing heroin addiction problems by addressing co-morbidities such as tooth decay, high blood pressure, diabetes and Hepatitis C.

“We each bring something unique to the practice,” Anubhav Mital said. “There’s respect of ability and capability; the dynamic has flourished.”

Chetna Mital said her areas of interest include geriatrics and diabetes. Both doctors have been working the last six months to become “Joslin certified” in anticipation of the Joslin Diabetes Centers at Fort Hamilton Hospital opening downtown in October.

“We’ve made some positive changes,” Chetna Mital said, including creating a diabetes registry to better track and care for those patients.

Within the community, Chetna Mital serves on the advisory board at the Community Foundation of West Chester and Liberty. Her son is on the at-large board at the Boys and Girls Club of West Chester/Liberty and offers a free clinic once a month at St. Raphael in Hamilton.
