Minor injuries after SUV goes into West Chester pond

A driver suffered minor injuries after a SUV went into a pond Tuesday evening in West Chester Twp.

It marked the second time in recent months a vehicle has landed in a retention pond in the commercial area around Union Centre Boulevard.

The SUV exited southbound Interstate 75 at around 4 p.m. Tuesday, went off the road and landed with the rear end of the vehicle in the pond near Cincinnati Marriott North, according to township spokeswoman Barb Wilson.

The West Chester Twp. Fire Department extricated one man, the driver, who was taken to West Chester Hospital with facial injuries, she said

There was no danger of the man drowning, according to Wilson.

The interstate ramp was closed for about 30 minutes while crews completed the extrication.

In July, rescue divers found the body of Kelvin Tabiri, 19, of West Chester Twp., after his car ended up submerged in a retention pond in front of Cornerstone Consolidated, a business on West Chester Road.
