Middletown firefighters receive federal grant to replace SCBA gear

Middletown firefighters can breathe a sigh of relief as the city received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant to replace its inventory of self-contained breathing apparatus equipment.

Fire Chief Paul Lolli said the city was notified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency that it will receive a $337,690 grant to replace the equipment they use when they go into a structure to put out a fire.

Lolli said the grant “takes a huge chunk” out of the city’s deferred maintenance cost budget.

He said he appreciates the support from the federal Department of Homeland Security and FEMA to enhance the safety of the citizens of Middletown and the firefighters. Lolli praised the work of the team who worked on the grant that included Firefighters Chris Klug, Ben Bultman, Ryan Pennekamp, Capt. Rob Curry, and Assistant Chief Tom Snively.
