Longtime Middletown police dispatcher dies at age 60

A longtime Middletown police dispatcher died Thursday night at Hospice Care of Butler and Warren Counties.

Chuck Demostenes, a 25-year veteran with the department, was 60, said Shelley Meehan, communications supervisor. She said Demostenes was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2015 and worked until June of this year. His retirement was official on Sept. 30, she said

“It’s hard for me to- talk about,” Meehan said through tears when asked what she will miss most about him.

She said Demostenes possessed “a big personality” and he loved the Cleveland Browns, fantasy sports and cigars.

Visitation is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Wilson Schramm Spalding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., followed by the funeral from 7 to 8 p.m.

Demostenes is survived by his wife, Judy, and two daughters.
