Swim team raises money for father of 8 who died after car crash

A fund raising campaign to help a Liberty Twp. family who lost their husband and father after a traffic crash earlier this month has pulled in more than five times the goal of $2,500.

Chris Davis, 47, was paralyzed after a Jan. 4 collision with a box truck on Cox Lane in West Chester Twp. and died at University of Cincinnati Medical Center on Jan. 17, according to Christine Mosack Pitman, a fellow Beckett Ridge Barracudas swim team parent.

Davis and his wife, Cathy, have eight children and the swim team set up a GoFundMe account Jan. 12 with a goal of raising $2,500 by the end of February. The total on Tuesday morning stood at $13,630.

Pitman said the Davis family is very active with the swim team and their church. Chris worked for several local school districts through his short career. She said Cathy homeschools her children and the family needs as much support as the community can give.

“This is a tragic story and he was such a young man,” Pitman said. “His family is going to need a lot of help so the more people that we reach out to and get the word out to, the better off maybe they’ll be, if people will find it in their hearts to pray or to help them financially.

The GoFundMe account will be open until the end of February.

The police report indicated the truck driver missed a turn on northbound Cox Lane at around 8 a.m. and backed up and struck Davis’ silver Hyundai Sonata.
