Massachusetts man dies in Preble County crash

UPDATE @ 10 p.m. (Dec. 15)

A passenger killed in a single-vehicle crash was identified Friday as 26-year-old James S. Combs Jr. of Massachusetts, according to the Preble County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened Thursday in the early morning hours, but was not found until 8 a.m. by a local resident. Combs was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Camden College Corner Road at the Kingrey Road intersection in Israel Twp.

The driver of the 2004 Volkswagen was identified as Kenneth Cress, 26, of Fairhaven, Ohio. He was flown to Kettering Medical Center with serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Volkswagen traveling south on Camden College Corner Road lost control going over a curve. The car then left the road, went airborne and struck several trees.

The crash remains under investigation by the county sheriff’s and coroner’s offices.

Camden EMS, Camden Fire, College Corner Fire, Ohio State Highway Patrol and MedFlight also responded to the scene.

One man is dead in this crash, officials on scene said.

Another male was flown to a Kettering hospital.

Officials said the vehicle drove off the road and crashed into a tree. Speed is considered a factor during a preliminary investigation.

The Preble County coroner has been requested to the scene of a crash on Kingrey Road this morning.

INITIAL REPORT:

A serious crash has been reported on Kingrey Road this morning near College Corner.

At least one injury has been reported and a medical helicopter has been requested to the scene, according to officials.

The crash is located in the 9100 block of Kingrey.
