Rain, maybe a heavy dose, headed for region early next week

Look for rain, perhaps heavy, beginning Monday that is expected to last through at least Wednesday, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said.

After a brief break, an active weather pattern will resume across the Miami Valley next week. High pressure will move off the southeastern United States and stall.

The clockwise surface wind flow around that high pressure will pump moisture-laden air from the Gulf of Mexico into the Ohio Valley beginning late Sunday into Monday.

Meantime, a cold front will push from the Upper Midwest into the Ohio Valley on President's Day and then stall as it runs into the high pressure system parked off the East Coast.

The front will "ring-out" the moisture in the form of rain, perhaps heavy, beginning Monday and lasting through at least Wednesday of next week.

Rainfall amounts could exceed 2 to 3 inches, which could lead to flooding. If you live in flood-prone areas, you should monitor local water levels as rain returns to the region.
