Power lifter opens new business in Middletown

ID Training Academy — short for Irondawgz Training Academy — opened in December at 1131 Central Ave. in Middletown, offering a combination of conditioning and strength training in 7,000-square feet of space inside Torchlight Pass.

Specialization is in any sport or just basic overall fitness depends on the client or customers needs, according to ID Training Academy CEO Steve Thompson, of Beavercreek.

“I’ve always wanted to start a business that offered a combination of fitness and also strength training at one facility,” said Thompson, a personal trainer and nationally ranked power lifter. “The great thing about the model I have for my gym is if you are a member and are not doing personal training all workouts are posted daily on my chalkboard — Powerlifting, Crossfit and the IDTA workout of the day — and it’s updated daily.”

Thompson said he chose to locate the business in Middletown because of the hospitality that the people have shown me over the last couple of years that he has worked in the city.

“My client base is here and I just thought it would be a good fit to have my gym located in the place I’ve been working at for the past couple of years,” he said.

The business, which includes Thompson and one assistant trainer, is open from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.
