Northern Ohio man in possession of more than 27K child porn images

A Sylvania man and former daycare worker has been indicted on charges of child pornography after authorities found almost 30,000 graphic files on his electronic devices.

Mark Koltz, 26, had more than 27,000 images and 1,300 videos of child sexual exploitation including the rape of toddlers and prepubescent teens on 10 devices, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracey Ballard Tangeman, Northern District of Ohio.

Tangeman told CBS affiliate WTOL-TV in Toledo that federal agents were allowed to assist Sylvania police in this crime against children because the Internet crosses state lines and child pornography is bought, sold and traded.

"These children, these minors are being victimized worldwide now," Tangeman told WTOL.

"There images are being traded the ways others might trade commodities or things of value. They're treated as things of value by those who want those images and by those who make those images available to others."

Koltz previously worked at First Apostolic Church of Toledo's daycare, Son-Shine Educational Center, from March 2015 to Dec. 30, 2016.

The Rev. Chris Dillingham told WTOL that Koltz left his employment at the daycare to pursue another job.

Dillingham constructed a background check but nothing was flagged in Koltz's hire. During his employment, there were never any accusations or allegations made of Koltz.

He said it's been devastating news to hear, and at this point none of the known allegations are related to his employment or his connection to the church.

Koltz was arrested Dec. 11. He has been indicted on one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography.

He posted bond and the federal court has until Jan. 10 to present the case to a grand jury.
