Hamilton man killed in Warren County crash

UPDATE, May 3: The Hamilton man killed in a fatal crash early Monday morning was not wearing his seat belt, according to the Warren County Coroner's Office.

Eric A. “Tony” Ruff, 26, was a front seat passenger in the vehicle and was “partially ejected from the car” in the crash, according to the coroner’s office.

Two passengers in the back seat and the driver in the single-vehicle accident suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Ruff was a 2009 graduate of Fairfield High School, according to his obituary. He obtained a bachelor of science in criminal justice in 2013 at Thomas Moore College, where he also played football.

Ruff was employed as a correctional officer for the Warren Correctional Institution, according to his obituary.

UPDATE @ 8:50 a.m. May 1:

A 26-year-old Hamilton man has been identified as the fatal victim in a crash overnight on North Union Road.

Eric A. Ruff was a passenger in the crash and succumbed to his injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lebanon Post.

A 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Daniel A. Miller, 32, of Middletown, went off the left side of the road on a right hand curve and struck a guardrail before overturning and struck some trees, according to the patrol.

INITIAL REPORT, May 1:

One person was killed and three others injured in a single-vehicle crash early Monday.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Brian Cook said alcohol may be a factor in the crash, which happened around 2:40 a.m. on North Union Road just north of Manchester Road.

  • The driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve and went off the left side of the road, then went over a guardrail and into a ditch, according to police
  • A passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Three others, including the driver, were taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Cook said troopers are investigating whether everyone was wearing seat belts.

He warned motorists to find a designated driver and added seat belts save lives.

Three medic units were requested to a reported rollover crash on North Union Road in Franklin Twp. early Monday morning.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area of North Union Road near Shaker Road around 2:50 a.m. on initial reports of a rollover crash with injuries.

A CareFlight medical helicopter was requested on standby status, but has not been requested to fly to the scene.
