OSP said Heaton was spotted in Miami County on I-75 near Piqua following an earlier pursuit involving Middletown and Franklin police.

After troopers attempted to stop Heaton, he is accused of fleeing and multiple attempts were made by the patrol to use tire deflation devices to end the chase, the patrol said in a release.

As the chase approached Anna, Heaton is said to have struck a trooper’s cruiser intentionally, OSP said.

Eventually the chase headed back into Sidney, where Sidney Police successfully deployed stop sticks and then the suspect intentionally rammed a Shelby County deputy’s cruiser before he was arrested, the patrol said.

A female passenger in Heaton’s vehicle was injured, however she was released from police custody after treatment, OSP said.

Additional charges are being considered in the case, officials said.

INITIAL REPORT:

Two people who tried to avoid law enforcement in Warren County triggered a high-speed multi-county pursuit north on I-75 that ended with a crash and them in a hospital.

The male and female have been taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney following the crash on state Route 47 in Sidney that resulted after their vehicle hit spiked sticks officers put down on the road.

We're also hearing that troopers used a "pit maneuver" -- bumping the rear and side of a vehicle to force it into a semi-spin or turn -- as well to bring the car to a halt.

The conditions of the male and female are not known.

Details are still coming together, but we're hearing the chase began in Warren County in or near Middletown sometime after 6:30 p.m., continued through Montgomery County and into Miami County near Piqua.

The pursuit picked up again in Shelby County until the crash on East North Street ended it about 7:15 p.m.

State troopers from the Dayton and Piqua posts, Shelby County sheriff's deputies and Sidney police were involved in the pursuit, which reached speeds of 85 mph at times, and the apprehension.

We've reached out to Middletown police and the Ohio Highway Patrol for more information.

We will update this developing report as we continue to gather information.
