Local choir first to register for next World Choir Games

A local woman’s choir has become the first choir to register for the 2014 World Choir Games.

The Little Miami Women’s Vocal Ensemble officially registered for the 2014 World Choir Games, which will be held in Riga, Latvia. The choir earned a silver medal at the 2012 World Choir Games, which were held considerably closer than the Latvian games will be. The 2012 games were in Cincinnati, drawing more than 15,000 participants and 200,000 spectators.

“We cannot begin to explain what participating in the 2014 games in Cincinnati did for our choir and the spirit in our school, said choir conductor Sarah Baker.

Baker said the organization was going to Latvia for several reasons: to vie for a gold medal; to again offer their singers the opportunity for the cultural exchange with singers from all over the world; and to represent the greater Cincinnati area.”

“Our community created a wonderful event – competing and representing them is just a small way to say thank you,” Baker said.

Lori Lobsiger, Director of North American Markets, the international organizing committee for the World Choir Games, confirmed the Little Miami Women’s Vocal Ensemble was the first choir in the world to submit its registration.
