Leaf pickup in Fairfield starts next month

Free leaf collection will be provided in Fairfield residential areas starting on Nov. 6.

Residents are asked to place the leaves between the curb and sidewalk, or in areas without a curb, adjacent to the street. Leaves should not be raked into the street, as gutters and storm sewers can become blocked causing localized flooding during moderate-to-heavy rainfall.

Residents are asked to not park in front of or near the leaf piles between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. during pickups days as that prevents collection trucks from reaching those piles. Blocked piles will be left until the next scheduled collection week.

Grass clippings, sticks, limbs or brush should not be placed in leaf piles as they can clog and damage equipment, as well as injure workers.
