Hamilton’s sixth annual unity fellowship event draws a crowd

The sixth annual citywide faith based alliance unity fellowship drew a bigger than expected crowd, according to organizers as residents from around Hamilton turned out to enjoy fellowship, food and music at the Booker T. Washington Center.

One of the event organizers Alonzo Wells said the large turnout showed that the city can find ways to “have fellowship together and enjoy the many different walks of life that people come from. If we can bring this many people together and have this kind of melting pot, then we can work to solve our problems.”

The Rev. Marcus Brown, who has been involved with the event since its inception, said it is important to have as many cultures as possible involved in the event.

“We had a Latin singing group here and so many different people from all walks of life here today,” Brown said. “I really would like to see that multicultural aspect continue to grow.

Pastor Shaquila Mathews said it was great to see the unity at the event.

“It is awesome to see people come together from all different backgrounds and denominations to come out and celebrate and make this happen,” she said.

Volunteer Mike Gibson said he was encouraged to see that the event was able to touch people.

“It is wonder to see how good people can be to each other,” Gibson said.

Pastor Dennis Kidd was the first to lead the unity event six years ago, and he likes how it has evolved.

“The first year was a good thing and we have had to tweak things but it has come a long way,” Kidd said.
