Hamilton closing River Road for 8 days

River Road between Laurel and Corwin avenue will be closed to through traffic daily beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, until 6 p.m. Jan. 27 so that a new water main can be installed.

The project includes the replacement of water main and approximately 59 residential water service lines and 11 fire hydrants will also be replaced during the project, according to the city.

Work will be conducted weather permitting.

Motorists using River Road to commute are encouraged to follow the exterior detour route, the city said.

Motorists traveling south on Neilan Boulevard will be detoured east on Knightsbridge Drive, south on U.S. 127, west on St. Clair Avenue and south on River Road.

Motorists traveling north on River Road will be detoured east on St. Clair Avenue, north on U.S. 127, west on Knightsbridge Drive and north on Neilan Boulevard.

Streets within the interior detour limits shall be used for local traffic only.

The overall River Road project is between Fairview and St. Clair avenues with a scheduled completion date of May 2017.
