“The only pressure I had was to work hard,” Nuxhall said. “If you absolutely do everything you can, outwork everyone, what regrets can there be?”
Nuxhall’s games were on field No. 7 at Waterworks Park, adjacent to what was a concession stand and storage facility. Now the field sits next to Joe Nuxhall Pavilion, which was built and dedicated last summer.
Today, June 28, the field Nuxhall played on as a 9- and 10-year-old will be renamed “Marty and Joe Field” for Nuxhall, who died in November 2007, and his Hall of Fame broadcasting partner, Marty Brennaman.
Brennaman is expected to attend the dedication.
“Marty’s got a field named after him, Joe’s got a field named after him. We figured it would be a really neat way to bring that all together,” said Reds Community Fund Executive Director Charley Frank.
The field is sponsored by the Reds Community Fund and is the main field at the complex.
“We want to do everything possible to keep Joe’s legacy bright,” Frank said. “Working in Fairfield and Hamilton, it’s certainly easy to do that because of Kim’s work, because of the family and because of how beloved Joe and his legacy are there.”
The ceremony will start at noon at Waterworks Park on Groh Lane. A replica of a new scoreboard will be erected at the field.
