Fashion show in Hamilton to raise money for children’s art classes

Art On Symmes/Art Off Symmes will host its 2017 Spring Fashion Show from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, 101 S. Monument Ave.

This will be the ninth fashion show in recent years. Proceeds will benefit scholarships for children at the Booker T. Washington Community Center so they can participate in art programs through the Fitton Center.

“We do it in the spring and in the fall, and we use models that are just like your next-door neighbor — all sizes, all ages — and put fashionable clothes on them, bring them out of wearing frumpy clothes into wearing something stylish, no matter what their age,” said Sherry Armstead, owner of Art On Symmes in Fairfield and Art Off Symmes in Hamilton.

Who might want to attend?

“We’ve got a teen model,” Armstead said. “My mom’s coming, and she’s 91, so it runs the gamut. Any woman is welcome to come, and men are welcome, if they choose.”

The most recent show had 225 people attend. It used to be held at the Mercantile Lofts, but the event outgrew that space last spring, according to Armstead.

It’s helpful for people to RSVP because there will be a cater, with wine available for purchase, she said. Tickets are available via fittoncenter.org/special-events. Tickets are $12 in advance and $20 at the door.
