The Dayton racino is being built at a former Delphi plant at Wagner Ford and Needmore roads. Penn has run into problems at the site in the press pit in the former stamping plant. This is requiring more cleanup than Penn anticipated.
Company officials said the problem has made the project run over budget and behind schedule, but that at this point, it’s still on track for opening in the Third Quarter of 2014 in time for the fall/winter 2014 live racing season.
“We’re still optimistic we’ll be able to make up on the construction side some of what we’ve lost on remediation work, and also get to a third quarter 2014 opening for this facility,” said Steven Snyder, the senior vice president of corporate development for Penn National.
Also at the meeting, officials with the company behind the new Warren County racino near Lebanon said their project is on track to open later this year with live racing starting in February.
