Countryside Y in Lebanon hosting family day and health fair

Free fitness classes, health assessments by Premier Health Atrium Medical Center, giveaways, and fun for children and families are what’s in store for the Healthy Family Day and Health Fair at the Countryside YMCA in Lebanon.

“Premier Health is a great partner with the Y. They have a sports medicine and physical therapy clinic right here at the Y, so every year, we put on this dual event where they have the opportunity to talk to the public about the medical care that they can provide, and we have an opportunity to show the public what the Y is all about and all of the activities we have here,” said Lori Cook, marketing specialist, Countryside YMCA.

The Healthy Family Day and Health Fair will be held on Sat., Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. For the first time, the event will incorporate live entertainment. There will be a concert from Grammy-nominated children’s musician Zak Morgan at 10:30 a.m., and a visit from Gapper, the Cincinnati Reds mascot, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Y will also showcase their newly-renovated, lower-level gym. Attendees can also try out a free YMCA fitness class, and enter to win prizes like a free month of membership to the Y.

The vendor fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A few of the vendors will include Expert Hearing Clinic, Rice Family Harvest, Medicare-Palmetto GBA, Touching Hearts at Home, Juice Plus, Kangen Water, Solutions Community Counseling and Recovery Centers, Shaklee, Arbonne, Young Living Essential Oils, The Marriage School and Up and Running, among others. Door prizes and giveaways will be available throughout the day, while supplies last.

Tweens and youth of all ages can experience the new Motion Zone, the YMCA’s active space for youth 7 and older, which features Exergame® equipment, a new technology of video games mixed with exercise. Participants will burn calories, increase agility, and improve hand-eye coordination at the same time they’re having fun.

There will be a variety of free fitness activities offered over the course of the event. Fitness classes will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Examples of classes include Cycle Spin at 7:45 a.m., Cross Training at 8:30 a.m., Strong Core and Body at 8:30 a.m., Abs and Glutes at 9:30 a.m., Circuit Training Express at 9:30 a.m. and Hi/Lo Aerobics at 10:15 a.m.

The Y will also offer free Pilates reformer presentations, and demonstrations on the new Synergy fitness equipment.

The Children’s Center, the YMCA’s licensed full-and-part-time child care business, will also be holding an open house and offering tours.

Premier Health will offer a number of screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar, balance/fall risk, functional movement and more. Physical therapists will be available to answer questions regarding aches and pains, injuries, dry needling, women’s health, vestibular rehab, aquatic rehab and foot assessments for runners. There will be heart-healthy cooking demonstrations. Local doctor practices will also participate.

“I think a lot of people tend to put their health care on the back burner, especially when they are raising families, and the more proactive you can be and the more knowledgeable and educated you can make yourself regarding health issues, the more likely you are to be healthy and make healthy choices,” said Lisa Duncan, site coordinator for sports medicine and physical therapy with Premier Health in the Countryside YMCA.

Premier Health and Atrium Medical Center’s mobile mammography coach will be on-site and available for appointments. Call 844-453-4199 in advance to register for a mobile mammogram.
