Jones said his wife, who is from Hamilton, moved into his home in Fairfield after they married seven years ago. They have two children, Jones said his family needed to up-size from “my bachelor pad.”
The house sold faster than he thought, and while they were searching for a house Jones and his family was living in his parent’s home.
“We tried,” Jones said about finding a place to stay in the city’s First Ward. “We were living with my family who were snow birds in Florida and when they came back and we had to figure something out.”
The city councilman told the council and city administrators during an executive session Monday evening. His resignation will take effect at noon on April 12.
“Although this was an incredibly difficult decision, and one made with a heavy heart, this is the right move for my family. For that I have no regrets,” Jones wrote in his resignation letter.
City Council has 60 days from the resignation to appoint a replacement, and if the board cannot come to a consensus, the responsibility to appoint will be left up to Mayor Steve Miller.
