Taxpayers get bill for special election to replace John Boehner

News Center 7 has learned the exact cost of the Sept. 13 special election in the 8th Congressional District.

The election was required because the Democrat in the race to replace John Boehner dropped out of the running.

It featured only one candidate, Steven Fought, because no one else filed petitions to run. Fought will face Republican Warren Davidson in November.

The cost? $340,814.65, which will be paid by state taxpayers.
