Officials investigate gun threat report at Kings High School, call it not ‘credible’

Reports of a student bringing a gun to Kings High School proved untrue but brought an increased police presence today.

Doug Leist, principal of the Warren County high school, sent out a message to school families Thursday explaining the events earlier this week that drew both school and police investigations while praising the school community for reporting the alleged threat.

“This evening (Thursday) several students and parents have reached out to trusted adults at Kings High School to report concerns they have about the safety of our school. These reports indicate that a student allegedly brought a weapon to school earlier in the week and intended to do the same tomorrow (today), in order to harm others,” wrote Leist.

“The Warren County Sheriff’s department and Kings High School administration have thoroughly investigated this and have not found anything to be a credible threat.”

“As with all matters of student safety, we have taken this very seriously and have acted accordingly, utilizing both our school resource officer and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department. Our motto at school with regards to safety is ‘if you see something, say something.’ Although in this incident, the information has been unsubstantiated, I am proud that multiple staff members, students, and their parents brought this to our attention. It shows how united our community is in protecting our students.

“I want to thank those students and staff members who have provided us with the information necessary to investigate. Providing a safe and secure learning environment is of top priority at Kings High School and we take these incidents very seriously. The Warren County Sheriff’s Department will be present at the high school in the morning (today) to reassure that the school is safe,” he said.
