How you can get involved at the new $6.9M Boys & Girls Club

It may end up as one of the hottest club memberships in West Chester and Liberty townships.

The new, $6.9 million Boys & Girls Club West Chester & Liberty opens Thursday, and hundreds of Lakota School students are eventually expected to make the youth club their after-school destination.

While open to all families with school-age children in the Lakota district, the club features a sliding fee scale to better accommodate the needs of low income families in the two Butler County townships.

Here are some facts about the new youth club, including how to join or volunteer:

• The club’s address is 8735 Cincinnati-Dayton Road in the historic Olde West Chester community in southeastern Butler County, about a half mile south from the Interstate 75-Cincinnati-Dayton Road interchange.

• Club operation hours are 3 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Monday through Friday are designed to accommodate Lakota School students after their school day ends. Buses transport student club members from their school to the facility. Parents are responsible for picking up their children from the club. The club is not open on weekends.

• During the summer, the club is open Monday through Friday for nine weeks from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Club membership is $50 per member for the academic year. For members whose families qualify for free or reduced school lunches, the cost of membership is as low as $5 an academic year. Lakota students in grades 2nd through 12th in West Chester and Liberty townships are eligible to join.

• Programs and activities are grouped by age at the club.

• Adult volunteers are an essential part of the staffing at any Boys & Girls Club. All volunteers must submit an online application at www.bgcwcl.com and will undergo a criminal background check and random drug testing.
