Lakota again delays deadline for superintendent applicants

For the second time in a week Lakota school officials announced another delay in their search for a new superintendent.

The second deadline for applicants — until this change — was midnight today.

There are no problems causing the latest delay, Lakota Board of Education President Ben Dibble told the Journal-News today, but rather a desire by board members to allow candidates more time to apply for the job.

“The Lakota board has decided to move the application deadline for our superintendent search to 5 p.m. on Jan. 25,” said Dibble, on the recommendation of the candidate search firm being used by the district.

The original deadline for applicants was Jan. 13, but that was delayed last week until midnight today.

Board members continue to say they plan to hire a new superintendent by March, who would begin work during the summer prior to the start of the 2017-2018 school year.

“Selecting Lakota’s next leader carries a lot of weight and the board wants to draw the best possible pool of candidates. This slight delay will allow that to be the case,” Dibble said.

Lakota's former Assistant Superintendent Robb Vogelmann was appointed by the school board into an acting superintendent capacity in August after the board granted former Superintendent Karen Mantia medical leave.

Vogelmann has told the Journal-News he is a candidate for the job but has declined further comment.
