JUST IN: PETA unveils new Dayton billboard challenging seafood eaters

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has launched a new billboard campaign targeting cities with high concentrations of Long John Silver’s and Captain D’s restaurants — including Dayton.

The billboard — located at Needmore Road and Frederick Pike — includes a photo of a fish and the words, “I’m ME, Not MEAT. See the Individual. Go Vegan.”

In a release, PETA officials said the billboard is less than a mile from a Long John Silver’s location and a JJ Fish & Chicken restaurant.

“Just like humans, fish feel pain and fear, have unique personalities and value their own lives,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a release.

More fish are killed for food each year than all other animals combined, yet they have no legal protection from abuse, PETA officials said.

PETA is planning to run the ad in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Columbus, Georgia.
