DBC’s Kettering location opened in May 2012, the first in a wave of nearly a dozen Dayton-area breweries that would open over the next couple of years. It opened its much larger production brewery and taproom at 41 Madison St. in downtown Dayton in April 2015, and started canning beers for retail sale soon thereafter.

In a release, brewery founder Pete Hilgeman said Dayton Beer Company’s management team “explored many options and alternatives over the past year in regards to the Kettering location, including an expansion of the current site and finding an alternative location in Kettering.

“In the end, the company decided that DBC and its customers would be best served by centralizing operations at its downtown facility, concentrating on its wholesale beer distribution and expansion.”
The Kettering location shut down after the close of business on Saturday, Aug. 12.

“I can honestly say I have worked for over a year to try to expand and or move our Kettering location, but we just couldn't get the correct deal in place or find the right property to remain in Kettering. It has given me some incredible memories and I will be forever grateful for all of those who patronized DBC Kettering.
“This chapter may close, but I can't wait to get started on more exciting developments we have planned, so stay tuned!”

Hilgeman announced in early 2016 he would renovate and expand the Kettering tap room and will launch a “guest brewer” program for amateur homebrewers and professional brewers. The project added about 12 more seats to the 20-seat tap room and renovated its patio.
