TRENTON — A parade, scavenger hunt and tree-lighting ceremony are just a few of the festivities planned for the annual Christmas in Trenton Saturday, Dec. 5.
The family-oriented event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a parade beginning at Trenton Community Park. The parade route will go from the park down State Street and end at Barn-n-Bunk on Wayne Madison Road.
Christmas in Trenton was started about 10 years ago to bring the community together to celebrate the holiday season with free activities for all ages, according to the city.
“We believe that Christmas in Trenton allows for showcasing of our business community and our city. This is the single largest event held in Trenton each year and the community embraces the event,” said John Jones, city manager.
A scavenger hunt and passport to Trenton also will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through local businesses including Adkins Upholstery, Barn-n-Bunk, B-Safe Driving School and Domino’s Pizza, the city said.
Kids can have their pictures taken with Santa from noon to 4 p.m. at Barn-n-Bunk and the City Building, the city said.
Live entertainment will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at Bloomfield Elementary School on North Miami Street. Participants will include The Murphy’s, children’s choirs, Elementary choirs, Choraliers, and the Edgewood High School Band.
Scavenger hunt prizes — including X Box 360 as the grand prize — will be awarded at 4:15 p.m. at the City Building followed by a tree lighting at 5:30 p.m. at Founder’s Park.
“Anybody that attends the event can get one ticket into the drawing, but if you complete the scavenger hunt you could increase your odds of winning because you can get up to as many as four tickets into the drawing,” Jones said. “We’re giving away tons of things everywhere from pizzas to gift baskets to car accessory type things.”
In addition, a nativity scene will be on display at Barn-n-Bunk and the Trenton Historical Society — located between the Library and Police Department — will be open during the event, city officials said.
