ST. CLAIR TWP. — A piece of tire shredding equipment caught fire after workers doing routine maintenance left for lunch.

Fire crews from St. Clair Twp. and New Miami were called just after noon to the Rumpke Scrap Tire Facility, 600 Augspurger Road, according to Butler County Sheriff’s dispatchers.

No injuries were reported in the blaze. Molly Yeager, Rumpke spokeswoman, said there was no dollar amount listed for the damages, which she described as being “pretty minimal.”

Yeager said tires are shredded at the facility and are used as material to line landfills.

She said the last time there was a fire there was about a year and a half ago.
