OXFORD — Melanie Hodges says there is a lot celebrate about the new high school.

The list includes never having the wake up early to search out a parking spot, having a new synthetic turf field, the glorious central air conditioning and a true auditorium — separate from the cafeteria.

Hodges and her fellow cheerleaders led the community in a celebration of the new school construction Friday, Aug. 27, along with the high school marching band. Two busses of community members traveled to the new school site off Ohio 27 to get an early look at the building.

The school will be “modern and sustainable” with improved technology and plenty of natural lighting, “all in this ideal environment surrounded by nature,” said Superintendent Phil Cagwin.

“I can’t wait to go inside and see what it’s going to be like,” said Kimberly Minor, who will be a member of the first freshmen class at the new school. “I think it’s going to be beautiful and like it’s going to help us learn better with air conditioning.”

Minor and her friends, Michaela Begley and Paige Landis, were also excited about the new athletic facilities.

High school Principal Vicki Brunn said the new building will allow the school to do more and will match the “wonderful group of students” and “staff that is second to none.”

“If you have time to spend with us once we’re in this building, you should because we’re going to be unstoppable,” she said.
