COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Health announced today, Nov. 2, that additional H1N1 flu vaccines should start to arrive at local health departments and hospitals by Tuesday, Nov. 3.

ODH ordered 389,500 doses of the vaccine from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday, Oct. 30. Officials said the vaccines will be shipped directly to 298 local health departments and hospitals throughout the state.

The order includes 60,800 doses of nasal-spray vaccine and 328,700 shots of H1N1 flu vaccine.

A message left on the Butler County Health Department’s general phone line indicates that it is currently out of the vaccine.

The vaccine is intended for high-risk individuals including health care and EMS workers, pregnant women, people who live with or care for children less than 6 months; all people 6 months to 24 years; and people 25 to 64 years with chronic medical conditions.

According to the ODH news release, it had previously ordered 595,200 doses of H1N1 vaccine, bringing the state’s total to 984,700 doses.

For more information on vaccine availability, check the ODH Web site at http://www.flu.ohio.gov or from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday call the ODH H1N1 information line at (866) 800-1404.
