A school bus flipped on its side, trapping the driver inside until paramedics and Butler County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on Friday, Oct. 30.

Officials responded to the crash along the 2200-block of Scott Road at about 2:15 p.m.

Witnesses said the school bus traveling west on Scott Road hit a ditch after swerving to avoid a car that had gone left of center.

The bus, which was headed to pick up kids at a Talawanda school, ran off the right side of the road, then swerved left back across the road before flipping onto its side into a soybean field, police said.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus slid across the field about 30 to 40 feet before coming to rest upright back in the middle of Scott Road. The driver was trapped inside until officials arrived and forced the doors on the bus open.

“My worst fear was that there were kids in the vehicle,” said Kevin Krause, 46, of Seven Mile, who witnessed the crash.

However, there were no children on board. The female driver of the bus, whose name was not immediately released, appeared to be in a lot of pain, according to Krause.

But dispatchers said the driver was not transported to the hospital.

The car traveling eastbound that the bus swerved to avoid fled the scene at a high rate of speed, witnesses said.

From the data collected from the onboard computer and an accident reconstruction team has found, a determiniation will be made BASED ON THE FACTS THEY FIND not on the monday morning second quarterbacks. In hindsite everybody can think they could do a better job, or that ther is a big coverup. The truth be known, some of the negative comments on this forum come from people whom have their head in some deserted place and don't know what they are talking about!

This bus was covered by an insurance company.Insurance companies do all they can to avoid a payout if the driver was at fault. With that known, does anyone think that they haven't already pulled the cell records to check that possibility 1st. What most people don't know is that ALL vehicles manufactured after a certain date contain a black box that records the last few seconds of data before the crash. This is done to protect the manufactur from people claiming defective parts caused a crash.
