ROSS TWP. — The Ross High School Rhythm & Motion Show Choir wants to share its world — and feed you dessert after.
The group’s “after-dinner theater” fundraiser marks the first time that the show choir has put on an event all of its own, said director Rosie Collier.
Rhythm & Motion is entirely “self-funded,” she said. Participating students pay a uniform fee, but that doesn’t even come close to covering the expenses that arise as the group travels to competitions throughout the school year.
So rather than a bake sale or car wash, the group is going to try to raise money doing what they love to do: Sing and dance.
The evening will begin with a performance of Rhythm & Motion’s current competition show, “Welcome to Our World,” in the auditorium.
“Then we’ll move them to our Cafe Bistro where they will be served professionally-made desserts, coffee and soft drinks, and be further entertained by soloists and ensembles from the choir,” Collier said.
“Welcome to Our World” consists of a medley of songs with a “world theme” — “A New World” by Jason Robert Brown and the rock classic “Joy to the World,” for instance — with an emphasis on the lives and dreams of contemporary teens, said group members.
“We go on a journey by drawing you into our world through song,” said senior Andree Chen.
Rachel Place said that because of the choreography by Molly Bruns, well-known for her musical theater work and making her first foray into the world of show choirs, this show is very different from anything else the group has done in the past.
“It’s a very different style,” Place said. “It’s fun and exciting so everyone should come and see it.”
