Two giant oak trees smashed into the right side of a house early Friday, June 26, at the corner of Pleasant and Beech avenues.

Don and Pam Bond heard a smash around 2 or 2:30 a.m. Friday.

“I thought it was a tornado or something, so we grabbed the dogs and went down to the basement,” said Pam Bond.

The couple’s bedroom was on the left side of the house that fronts Pleasant Avenue. The trees landed on the right side of the house.

About 3 a.m., the couple came out of the basement and saw the damage outside. Two trees estimated to be 125 feet tall with a 5-foot diameter trunk, and likely more than 100 years old were laying in the couple’s garage, living room and dining room.

There were three vehicles in the garage, and a pickup truck in the driveway with a tree top of it. The couple wasn’t able to see the damage to the vehicles in the garage early Friday afternoon.

“We didn’t lose any trees, just some limbs, during the windstorm (Sept. 14), and we thought we were pretty safe after that,” Pam Bond said. “This was a shock.”

As of Friday, it’s unknown how much damage was caused by the fallen trees. The couple hadn’t owned the home long.

“We just moved here about a year ago, and that’s one of the things we loved about the yard,” Don Bond said.

After Scottie’s & Son Tree and Landscape finish clearing the tree, the couple will have Superior Restoration fix the hole in their home until they can rebuild it.
