Staff Report
HAMILTON — The person killed riding their bike Friday on S. Erie Hwy. has been identified by police as Earl Taylor, 56, of Hamilton.
At 7:17 p.m. Friday, Taylor was crossing the road in front of 2039 S. Erie Highway when he was struck by vehicle traveling north on Erie Highway, according to the Hamilton police.
The victim was transported to Fort Hamilton hospital, where he died.
This was the second incident in as many days involving a person who was hit and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross a street in Hamilton.
On Thursday, Alvin Cole, 72, of Merle Court in Hanover Twp., was crossing in the 900 block of Main Street just after 1 p.m. when he fell down and was struck by the westbound 1998 Dodge Durango driven by a Lisa Duncan, 41, of West Chester, police said. Cole was taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, where he died, police said.
The incident involving Taylor is still under investigation and no citations have been issued, said Hamilton police Lt. Gerald Martin on Saturday.
The incident was not a hit-and-run, according to Officer Kristy Collins, Hamilton police spokeswoman. “The person stopped and waited for emergency crews,” she said. “It is still under investigation.”
Duncan has not been cited, Collins said.
