FAIRFIELD — Quality of life is an important phrase for park developers and managers in Fairfield and Fairfield Twp.

Summer officially started Sunday, June 21, and many people look to vacation at home this year. Though the city and township are in very different developmental stages, there’s plenty to do in each system, officials said.

Fairfield has something planned in at least one of its parks every week.

“We like to diversify our offering, and not just having concerts every week or a movie every month,” said Fairfield Parks and Events Manager Ben Strickler.

Events in Fairfield include Thursday night’s Groovin’ on the Green summer concert series and the monthly Movies in the Park, both at Village Green Park, and Red, White & Kaboom on July 3 at Harbin and Village Green parks.

There’s also the Aquatics Center, Fairfield Greens golf courses, Marsh Lake and the tennis and basketball courts.

“There’s a lot to do here,” Strickler said.

Fairfield Twp.

While Fairfield Twp.’s park system is still developing and there aren’t set summer events, there are plenty of activities in the area, said Assistant Administrator Skylor Miller.

“We have the two new picnic shelters that are free to the public to use, and we also have summer baseball leagues,” Miller said of the township’s two parks at Millikin Road and Schaefer’s Run parks.

There’s also the new disc golf course at Millikin Road Park, which also has a walking/running trail, and basketball and tennis courts.

“It’s important for the community,” said Fairfield Twp. Trustee Mark Sutton. “It gives the residents a place to take their kids, a safe place to take their kids for exercise, for recreation.”

Sutton said township officials are discussing plans, such as a water feature at Shaefer’s Run. The trustees make sure to budget money every year to improve the parks, he said.
