WEST CHESTER TWP. — Officer Nicholas Gattermeyer remained in critical condition late Saturday, Nov. 28, after his cruiser crashed into a utility pole and tree last week.
Gattermeyer, 25, was responding to a report of a burglary in progress just after 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, when his cruiser went off the road and struck a utility pole and then a tree near Dimmick Road and Friar Tuck Drive.
Gattermeyer was briefly trapped inside his cruiser before he was freed by the West Chester Fire Department.
He was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Cincinnati, where he has spent his birthday and the Thanksgiving holiday in critical condition.
The 2003 Fairfield High School graduate, who is the nephew of Hamilton Municipal Court Judge Daniel J. Gattermeyer, joined the West Chester Twp. police force in February 2008.
