HAMILTON — Tuesday night’s Music Cafe at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts features at least two newcomers to the event.

One of these is Jeffee Kiser of Grayson, Ky., who is billed as an acoustic finger-style guitarist, in the style of Chet Atkins.

Two of the songs he’ll play aren’t known primarily for their acoustic guitar: one is “A Day in the Life” by the Beatles, on which he’ll replicate John Lennon’s guitar line, and the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter,” which he will perform in “a driving acoustic style.” he said.

Kiser will also have a pedal that “gives the effect that you’ve got more than one person up there,” he said. He comes to the Music Cafe on the recommendation of musician friends who told him, “it’s a place for purists - for people who really enjoy the music,” he said.

Also new to Music Cafe is the Christian folk rock group Live Past Life, based in Middletown. They’ve played at a number of churches and concerts like the Freedom Fest in Middletown. They’re known for a “unique style of worship. We call ourselves radical Christian music,” said Justin Murphy, a member of the group, which uses unusual instruments like hand drums.

Leading off the lineup is Alex Poteet, 18, a guitarist from Eaton who is making his third appearance at Music Cafe. He’ll put new spins on familiar favorites like “Cross Road Blues,” which he’ll play in a cross between the version by Cream and the original version by Robert Johnson. He’ll also play Kanye West’s “Heartess.”

“I’ll be mixing older traditional blues songs with newer songs by newer artists who are not necessarily in the blues, but I’m still interpreting it in that style,” Poteet said.

Also on the roster are classical guitarist David Cochran and the band Tru Sense, playing classic and new light rock.
