HAMILTON — For years, Shawnte Moore concocted home-style meals to feed and celebrate with friends and family, including a 17-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son.
Last week, Moore followed a long-time dream of sharing her culinary talents and opened Shawnte’s Place, a 1,700-square-foot restaurant at 23 North Third Street.
“I like to cook and a lot of people I know love my cooking,” she said.
Most of the items on the restaurant’s menu range in price from $2 to $5, including mac ‘n’ cheese, chicken wings, fish dinners and a “stuffed muffin” that is served with chicken salad or tuna salad inside.
A triple sub sandwich costs $3 and comes with turkey, ham and pepperoni, with optional cheese, ranch dressing, banana peppers, pickles, lettuce or jalapeno.
Shawnte’s Place also offers salad, soup and chili.
“I just want to make something pleasurable for my customers to come in and taste different tastes and keep them coming back,” Moore said.
Keith Smith of Cincinnati, who works in Hamilton, said he has stopped by Shawnte’s Place for lunch on multiple occasions since the restaurant opened and tried several items, including the chicken wings, fish sandwich and the sub sandwich, his personal favorite so far.
“I can have it made my way ... and it’s really good,” he said while dining at the restaurant Wednesday. “Cheap price and a very good homemade sandwich.”
Moore is optimistic about the restaurant’s future growth and plans to add 1,300 square feet early next year by expanding into an adjacent storefront.
Shawnte’s Place delivers within a 3-block radius and charges a $2 fee for doing so. Orders may be placed by calling (513) 867-8500.
The restaurant also will cater events and holiday meals.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Tuesday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. thereafter.
