Miami University is waiting to release a long-term plan for its regional campuses until input is gathered from Butler County communities.
University officials are consulting with faculty, staff and communities before making final recommendations for the campuses in Middletown and Hamilton, as well as the Voice of America Learning Center in West Chester Twp.
Representatives from a community group in Hamilton asked for the delay after reading a report from a special committee that suggested bringing the regional campuses together under one leadership and re-envisioning the campuses as a location to earn bachelor’s degrees.
“What we’re looking for is clarification and answers,” said Jim Blount, who formed the Friends of Miami Hamilton group.
Blount attended a brief update on the plan by the Academic Affairs Committee at the Board of Trustees meeting in Oxford on Monday, June 22.
Provost Jeff Herbst told the committee he also is gathering input from faculty and staff, and said final recommendations could be made in the fall.
Miami President David Hodge told the committee it is important to have feedback from the campuses as they look at the plan, which will guide the campuses for the next 10 years.
“Our goal is to make sure that as we’re moving down the road that we’re serving the needs of the communities,” Hodge said.
The Friends of Miami University Hamilton will hold its public debate at 7 p.m. June 30 at the Lane Library Administrative Center, at 1396 University Blvd.
