HAMILTON — Main Street turns into Music Street for the 16th time Friday, Nov. 20, with the Main Street Music Fest.

In this festival, which runs from 5 to 9 p.m., 23 businesses will participate, with many of them featuring music by live local bands or solo acts. The event joins a number of other holiday celebrations this weekend. The city’s tree-lighting ceremony is at 5:30 p.m. Friday on the Front Street side of the Butler County Courthouse. Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park opens its Holiday Lights on the Hill Display at 6 p.m. Friday, and the city’s Holiday Kids Parade will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fitton Center.

Ann Bressler, the owner of Bargain Bungalow on Main Street, said this year there are six new businesses participating in the music festival. Those with performers are Rupp Monuments, at 553 Main, with the Cincinnati Pops Barbershop Quartet, and Virginia’s Resale Shop at 235 Main, will have Ken Schanie on keyboard.

Other businesses in the festival that feature musicians include:

• The Little Wood Shop, 571 Main, featuring the band Swank.

• Richard’s Pizza, 417 Main has John Kogge on acoustic guitar.

• The Main Look, 401 Main, offers Mark Engle and Dave Pohlman on trumpet and guitar.

• Armstead Park gazebo, Main and D streets, has the Park Avenue United Methodist Church Praise Team called “One.”

• Bargain Bungalow, 235 Main, has Bob Whitaker and friends playing bluegrass. Silhouettes also will be offered there.

• The Riverbank Cafe at 102 Main has the group Sactotum.

• Spalon S Marle at 116 Main has Myron Gabbard playing pop and country music.

• Porcellana Ltd. at 240 Main features the Fitter Family on French horn, cello and bells.

• Buckeye Insurance at 330 Main has John Balenger on acoustic guitar. The door prize is a gift certificate.

• A&T Furniture on 502 Main has the Johnson Family playing gospel music.

“It’s really festive. The whole street will be decorated for Christmas and we’ll have Mrs. Claus visiting all the businesses,” Bressler said.

Although Bressler said she didn’t have a typical attendance figure for the annual event, she said “we are wall to wall people.”

As a former journalist I think Eric Robinetten eeds to go back to journalism class. To get the info on the Bargain Bungalow wrong shows a lack of checking the facts.

Maybe the folks in charge of this event should head a few blocks east and talk to the knuckleheads at city hall and let them know that they are celebrating CHRISTMAS and not just a holiday.
