HAMILTON — A longtime city official has been terminated as part of a reorganization.
Charles Young, managing director of utilities/deputy city manager, was terminated Tuesday afternoon as part of a reorganization to help the city achieve its strategic goals, said City Manager Joshua Smith.
Smith said the decision was not a result of any disciplinary action or other issues with Young, who was a part of the city’s executive team.
Young confirmed he was “no longer with the city.”
“I had a wonderful 19 years with the city,” he said. “I wish the city nothing but the best.”
He declined to comment further.
Young, who earned $152,815 in 2011, was appointed to this position in June 2007 and oversaw the general administration of Hamilton’s utility operations, which included the Underground Utilities Department, Electric Department, and Special Utility Projects Department. It also included the Energy Management work group.
He also served in various positions, including the director of gas, water and utility infrastructure services; assistant electric director; assistant public utilities director; utility engineering superintendent; and environmental administrator.
Young also has five years experience as a university researcher and 12 years experience in the private sector. He is a registered public engineer in Ohio and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Cincinnati.
