FAIRFIELD — Six new businesses have signed leases at Cincinnati Mall, raising the occupancy rate to nearly 50 percent of the site’s more than 1.5 million-square-feet of space, its developers said Monday.

The businesses - which leased approximately 50,000-square-feet - include a video gaming arcade, a fitness club and a permanent make-up and micro-pigmentation studio. Cincinnati Mall straddles the Fairfield and Forest Park border in Butler and Hamilton counties near Interstate 275.

It has been slightly more than a year since mall owner World Properties LLC of New York announced plans to redevelop the property into a mixed-use entertainment facility. At the beginning of 2011, it was less than a third occupied, said General Manager Karla Ellsworth.

“Word’s really getting out things are changing and moving in the right direction,” Ellsworth said. “Its taken a good year to get going on it, but we’re really pleased with the progress that we’re making.”

The new businesses are in addition to the 25-year, 180,000 square feet leased to Cincinnati Sports Zone in December.

According to Ellsworth, the new tenants include:

• Arcade Legacy, which opened Feb. 18, an existing business that moved to the center to expand. Arcade signed a three-year lease for 7,561-square-feet;

• Extreme Baseball Academy opens in March with a three-year lease for 4,390 square feet;

• Bee Active Adventure Zone opens in April with a five-year lease for 22,917 square feet;

• Universal Fitness opens in April with a five-year lease for 12,981 square feet;.

• Brain Freeze Treats and Grill opens this spring with a three-year lease for 1,481 square feet; and

• Body of Influence opens in April with six-year lease for 1,296 square feet.
