HAMILTON — For more than 55 years, the Lindenwald Kiwanis of Hamilton has been serving up hot pancakes to raise funds.
The club’s 57th annual Pancake Day will be from 7 a.m. to noon April 30 at the Hamilton Freshman School.
“The annual Pancake Day project is our largest and most successful fund raiser,” said Vern Turner, event chairman. “We are hoping this year will be just as successful, for the needs in our community have increased.”
Proceeds from the fundraiser, which collects between $8,000 and $10,000, are split between a number of agencies and scholarships, said member Chuck Ramage.
Projects supported annually by the club are scholarships for Hamilton and Badin High School graduates, Safety Town, Parachute Butler County CASA, the YMCA and Hamilton Living Water Ministry.
The club donates around $20,000 per year, said Kiwanis President Pat Millard.
For $5, Pancake Day attends get all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, coffee, juice and milk. Children younger than age 6 eat for free.
Millard said between 800 and 900 people attend each year.
“It’s a good value; we try to keep it reasonable,” Turner said.
The Hamilton High Boosters will hold a plant and bake sale during the event. In addition, a handmade waterwheel quilt will be raffled. Jojo the Clown will provide entertainment from 10 a.m. to noon.
A pancake flip-off was held Monday outside the Government Services Center. About 20 onlookers watched as Butler County Judges Sharon Kennedy and Keith Spaeth, and Hamilton Mayor Pat Moeller attempted to fight the wind and flip mini-pancakes onto a cornhole board.
“Play the wind,” said Moeller, who got a pancake onto the board. “I was doing well for a while.”
