Time Warner Cable, Southwest Ohio Division has announced the launch of PowerBoost, a new technology allowing Road Runner Standard customers to temporarily experience double the current Internet download speeds.

PowerBoost is a new enhancement that gives bursts of speeds, up to 19Mbps for Road Runner Turbo, when downloading files or gaming at no additional cost. It is a change to the cable modem configuration file that allows customers additional speed when downstream bandwidth is available, according to a news release.

PowerBoost is built into Road Runner Standard and Turbo services; there’s no extra charge for the extra speed and it activates automatically when bandwidth is available, the company said.

“At Time Warner Cable we are always working on new technological advances and product enhancements to bring the best services and value to our customers, and PowerBoost is just another example,” said Vin Zachariah, regional vice president of operations for Time Warner’s, Southwest Ohio Division.
