HAMILTON — With the multi-state jackpot at $100 million, many novice Mega Millions lottery ticket buyers are out in force today, Dec. 11.

No one matched all the numbers from Tuesday night’s drawing for $83 million, but four tickets were sold, although not in Ohio, worth second prizes of $250,000 each. There were also 30 tickets sold, two in Ohio, worth the third prize, $10,000 each. The next drawing is tonight.

While “regulars” dropped by to buy their tickets Thursday, Jessica Whitaker, a 29-year-old clerk at the New Miami Quick Stop on Riverside Drive, said she expects a lot of people will be buying their tickets today.

“On Tuesdays and Fridays, it’s busy, busy Megas,” she said. “The regulars tend to come in early. They’re here daily buying their lotteries.”

Last December, a patron at the New Miami Quick Stop won the $10,000 prize by matching four numbers plus the Mega Ball.

Mega Millions is offered in Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Washington, Maryland, Texas and California. The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega Ball are one in 175,711,536, according to Ohio Lottery officials.

Despite the odds, 78-year-old Fred Knight of Hamilton knows what he would do if he won.

“First check I get, I move to Alabama,” he said.

“I’d change my lifestyle a bit. Get out of debt. Stop people from calling me about not paying my bills.”
