HAMILTON — The Hamilton City School District Board of Education is to be presented with several grants during tonight’s meeting.
One is a $26,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Education, Office of Information Technology to be used for expenses associated with the ongoing support of the data communication links connecting public schools to the Ohio Education Computer Network and the state’s K-12 network.
Two other grants include:
• Harry T. Wilks — Hamilton Celebrates Education Grants-Educator Awards of $3,000 to Kristin Yordy of Wilson Middle School for being named Educator of the Year and $500 to Carol Christian of Highland Elementary, Terry Haynes-Toney of Ridgeway Elementary School and Karen Blackmon of Crawford Woods Elementary, who were finalists for Educator of the Year. The funds will be used for supplies and materials to support their classrooms.
• A $500 Students Against Violence Everywhere mini-grant to Hamilton Freshman School from the Allstate Foundation to purchase supplies and materials to support character activities.
The treasurer is expected to present a change order for Wilson Middle School Renovations with TriCon Inc. for $45,441 for the old gym undercut at Wilson Middle School.
In personnel matters, the board is expected to approve the resignation of Joyce Leyrer for retirement after 35 years of service, effective Feb. 1.
Leyrer began employment with Hamilton City Schools in September 1969, serving most recently as health occupations educator at Hamilton High for the past 25 years.
The board also is expected to approve the hiring of Bill Robinson as a swimming coach.
The board meeting is at 7 p.m. today at the Board Administration & Training Center, 533 Dayton St., Hamilton.
